Meet Maya

Maya has five years of experience as a fundraising professional. Maya uses she and they pronouns. She is currently a Senior Development Strategist at Community Change in Washington, DC. At Community Change, she is a proud member of the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union and sits on the labor management and equity committees. In previous roles, Maya has worked and served with organizations that primarily serve communities of color. She has also previously served as the Director of Academic Excellence on the Board of Directors for her sorority, Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas, Incorporated. Maya has received a Bachelor of Arts in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies and African American Studies, a Masters of Public Administration, and a certificate in Nonprofit Management, all from Virginia Commonwealth University. Maya has been living in Virginia for the past 18 years.

How do you intend to use the funds?

I want to use the R.I.S.E. scholarship to get my certificate in Digital Fundraising from New York University. I attended a session at the Uprooted Retreat this year where one of the professors was presenting. I know this certificate will provide me with the access to learn new aspects of fundraising and deepen my professional development. The digital fundraising certificate will allow me to explore different mediums in fundraising that I have only informally used.
