Meet Our Talented 2023 Recipients
Autumn Joy Lee-Cass is the AADO Community Change’s 2024 recipient of the Birgit Burton R.I.S.E. Fund
Meet Autumn
The Birgit Smith Burton RISE Scholarship would allow me to fully take advantage of learning and networking opportunities in 2025, including AFP ICON and the AADO Conference without being concerned with the financial strain that comes with attending two major events out-of-pocket..
As a mid-level fundraising generalist, I am determined to sharpen my skills and continue pairing them with my natural talents of connecting and storytelling so that I can deepen my understanding of the art and science of fundraising. The conferences provide a one-stop shop where I can hear from many experts and thought leaders all the while strengthening my network.
Some of the educational efforts I plan to focus on at these conferences, and in any one-off opportunities include: staying current with trends as the donor landscape evolves, employing ethical and progressive techniques in storytelling and grant writing, improving board and donor engagement, and designing and deploying compelling campaigns. Another benefit of attending these conferences is that I will be able to earn additional required credits as I hope to obtain my CFRE in the next 18 months.
How do you intend to use the funds?
This scholarship comes at a most opportune time. Any events, conferences, and workshops I attend are self-funded. I am motivated to network and learn best practices so I can become a leading connector in community building, accessibility, and fundraising. In due time, I aspire to present and share best practices and trends at these very conferences. Giving back to the people and communities who pour into me is essential.
